owner, luthier, musician
Dave grew up in the small city of Gloucester, MA, the son of a furniture maker/bassist and a painter/English professor. Creativity was always encouraged at home and music lessons were mandatory — as was helping out around the woodshop and learning traditional woodworking skills.
Dave attended and graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2012 and, like most people in their post-college years, didn’t really know what to do. The ideas of valuing the untapped potential of raw trees and salvaged items, instilled during his childhood, remained a staple of his existence and fueled the desire to create custom instruments. By combining his love of woodworking and music, Dave has built an ever-growing collection of beautiful noise machines.
Electric Trees has recently settled into a new permanent workshop in Saugus, MA where everything is designed and produced. The understated beauty and refined rustic sensibility of our instruments, along with a focus on comfort and playability, has resulted in players coast to coast and abroad clamoring for one of Dave’s latest creations.
Our build process begins with a consultation to discuss your new instrument. You can tell us what your dream instrument would be and we can work with you to make it a reality. We can walk you through wood selection, body style selection, control layout along with selecting other components and design aspects to ensure that your new instrument will be as inspiring as it is beautiful.
Once you’ve provided us with the necessary details our owner and luthier, Dave Hanlon, begins building your guitar by hand in our Saugus, MA workshop from the finest hand selected domestic and exotic tonewoods and components.

HOW DO I ORDER A GUITAR?
To initiate an order, simply email or call us. If you already know exactly what you want, great! If not, we will help you hone in on the model and specs that will suit you best.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY GUITAR AFTER I ORDER IT?
The average duration from the time your order is finalized to when it arrives at your door is about 2-3 months. This can vary depending the complexity of your guitar, type of finish, and the woods you choose for your guitar. We strive to deliver your guitar in about 2 months, however quality always comes first so complex highly customized guitars can take significantly longer. This period also provides ample time for woods to stabilize after they are shaped in each process of the build.
WHERE DO YOU SOURCE YOUR WOOD FROM?
We always try to buy from local suppliers in the greater Boston area. However, for some exotic woods we have no choice but to order from other lumberyards. We try to use reclaimed wood (as seen on all of our antique pine bodies) whenever possible, and steer clear of endangered species such as Brazilian rosewood.
WHERE ARE ELECTRIC TREES CUSTOM GUITARS MADE?
All of our guitars are constructed from start to finish at our shop in Saugus, Massachusetts, U.S.A. using hand built methods. We start with raw lumber and build each body to order.
HOW DO I GET IN TOUCH WITH ELECTRIC TREES GUITARS?
Email us at email@example.com or call us at (781) 436-2651. We’re available Monday through Friday 9am-5pm Eastern Time
HOW DO I PAY?
We currently accept all major credit cards, as well as PayPal and Google Checkout. A 50% deposit is required for us to begin cutting wood, and the remaining 50% is due upon completion before we ship the guitar.
WHAT IF I WANT TO CANCEL MY ORDER AFTER IT IS PAID FOR?
If you need to cancel an order please call us immediately. If you stop the build before wood is cut we can usually provide a full refund. Typically orders can be canceled within 48 hours or payment with a refund of the deposit, less a $500 fee to cover lost materials that cannot be salvaged. This is because as soon as you finalize your order, we commit materials to your one-of-a-kind build and therefore they usually cannot be salvaged for use on another guitar.
WHAT IF I WANT TO CHANGE MY ORDER?
If you want to change something about your order, call us immediately and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request, if it is feasible, in a timely and cost-effective manner.
CAN I FINANCE MY GUITAR PURCHASE?
We currently do not offer financing. However, we are exploring the possibility of offering financing options in the future. Stay tuned!
WHAT IF I RECEIVE MY GUITAR AND THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT?
We guarantee all of our instruments against any and all manufacturer’s defects. In the event that you receive a guitar with a defect of any kind, contact us immediately and we will remedy the situation as quickly as possible and at no cost to you.
WHAT IF I SIMPLY DON’T LIKE SOMETHING ABOUT MY NEW GUITAR WHEN I RECEIVE IT?
If you are not completely satisfied with your new instrument then give us a call, and we will do everything in our power to remedy the situation. If it is our fault, we will fix the problem at no cost to you. Either way, we will make sure you end up a guitar you absolutely love.
DO YOU PROVIDE REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE SERVICES FOR MY ELECTRIC TREES CUSTOM GUITAR?
Yes. As mentioned above, if you receive your new guitar with some kind of defect, we will repair the instrument at no cost to you. For guitars that are outside of their warranty period and/or are in need of standard maintenance or repair, we will gladly perform the necessary work for a nominal fee.
